T: Hello, students, I am Ms Kostakieva and today we are going to work together in you
S: Hello, teacher.
? Teaching and learning activities:
T: Look at this picture. What’s this?
S: A ghost.
T: Correct. What’s this?
S: A witch.
T: What’s this?
S: A cat.
T: What is the cat’s colour?
S: The cat’s colour is black.
T: What’s on this picture?
T: And what’s this?
T: That’s right. In English we say “pumpkin”. Repeat after me: pumpkin.
T: Once again – pumpkin.
T: And what was this?
S: A pumpkin.
T. Great. These are the symbols of a very old festival called Halloween. It is celebrated on the
of October. People wear masks and costumes of ghosts and witches. Open your textbooks
on page 19. Look at the text on top. Who wants to read it? Have you been on Halloween
T: Do you want to make one now? Here I’ve got some masks. I’ll pick two of you to wear
them. Here is also a witch’s hat. There are some questions in there you should ask and
answer. Then switch roles.
/What’s your name?; What’s your address?; Can you say something about your family?; Can
you swim?; Can you fly?; Can you paint?; Can you read?; Can you run?; Can you dance?;
Can you count to twenty?; Can you count from thirty-one to fifty?; What colours do you
T: Thank you. You were great. Let’s play a game. There are some numbers written on the
whiteboard. I’ll say a number and you should match it with its word.
/twenty-three -23; thirty-eight – 38; sixty-two – 62; ninety-five – 95; fifty-four – 54;
seventeen – 17; twelve – 12; four – 4; forty-one – 41; eighty-five – 85; one hundred – 100;
eleven – 11; seventy-seven – 77; fifty – 50; sixty–nine - 69; eighty–one - 81/
T: Great. Now look at the picture on the whiteboard. What’s this?
S: A tree.
T: What colour is the tree?
S: It’s grey.
T: Is it scary?
S: Yes, it is.
T: What’s this?
S: A Castle.
T: What colour is the castle?
S: It’s blue and purple.
T: And what are the colours of the windows of the castle?
S: They are yellow.
T: What colour is the ground?
S: It’s brown.
T: That’s right. I need four of you to help me stick some of the pictures you saw at the
beginning of the lesson. Thank you. Look again at your textbooks on page 19. It is about how
to make a witch’s hat like mine. First you need a piece of paper. Do you have it? Show it to
me. Lift it up so I can see it. Thank you. Do you have a pair of scissors? Show them to me?
Thank you. Have you got stars and moon? Show them to me. Thank you. First cut out a shape
like this. What does cut means? Show me with your hands first then tell me in Bulgarian.
T: That’s right. Now roll the paper like this. What does roll means? Show it with your hands
T: Correct. Now stick it with the tape. What does stick mean?
T: Great. Cut the bottom like this. What does bottom mean?
S: Дъно; долен край.
T: Correct. Then stick the moons and the stars like this. Any questions?
T: Begin then. /students start making their hats/
T: Today we talked about Halloween and its symbols. We practiced introducing yourselves,
talking about your family, telling your address, talking about what you can and can’t do, we
practiced the numbers and the colours. You were great. Thank you. Dismissed.
